Nottingham Forest are believed to be interested in further strengthening their squad with a move for French striker Guillaume Hoarau, according to Swiss publication Nau.

The 35-year-old who is currently on the books of Swiss side Young Boys has an extremely impressive goal-scoring record, with 116 goals in 172 appearances in the Swiss Super League, whilst also contributing 35 assists in this time, ultimately becoming a key-player for his side.

So would Hoarau be a good signing for Forest? Is he the type of striker Forest need to be signing?

“Nottingham Forest are certainly in need of signing another striker to offer some much-needed support to Lewis Grabban up front, with Rafa Mir not managing to make any sort of impact since arriving at the City Ground on loan from Wolves.

“Hoarou, is perhaps a surprising name being linked with a move to Forest, but he certainly has goal scoring pedigree having scored 24 league goals for Young Boys in the Swiss Super League last term, although this season he has been affected by injuries which have limited his game time.

“At the age of 35 he would likely be more of a short-term fix to Forest’s lack of striking depth, but if he were to come and contribute a few vital goals that helped the Reds earn promotion, then it would have been a real wise investment.

“Forest, though, should probably be looking at more longer-term additions and bring someone in who they can help develop further, like an Ivan Toney for example, but whatever they do they must ensure they have more attacking options at the end of January.”

"I think this could be a smart move from Forest.

"They desperately need some more cover for Lewis Grabban as Rafa Mir has just not looked up to it so far.

"Hoarau has been prolific for Young Boys since joining, scoring 116 goals in 176 appearances, and could be just what the Reds need to boost their promotion push.

"They need to add some striking reinforcements in the January window as currently, you'd be very, very worried about their chances of promotion if Grabban were to get injured."

"I'd be avoiding this.

“Whilst there is no doubting Hoarau’s talent, Forest may find it beneficial to steer clear of signing the forward in the January transfer window.

“Now in the twilight of his career, the 35-year-old could struggle to adapt to the competitiveness that the Championship is famed for.

“Furthermore, when you consider that Hoarau has only scored twice in 12 appearances this season, it could be argued that he may not be the right man to bolster Forest’s attacking options.

“Although it is clear that Lewis Grabban needs some competition up-front at the City Ground, Forest should be looking at signing a young, exciting striker instead of focusing on the aforementioned Frenchman.”
