Derby County fans should be looking forward to their club taking their place at Wembley next Monday, to face Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final, with a place in the Premier League for next season up for grabs.
Rams fans though cannot help but be nervous at media speculation linking their manager Frank Lampard with the head coach position at Chelsea, should the Stamford Bridge owners decide to dispense with the services of current manager Maurizio Sarri.
So should Derby fans be worried at Lampard’s link with the Chelsea job?
“I’d be a little concerned.
“Lampard has turned this Derby team into a real promotion threat, and without him, they wouldn’t have made the top six in my opinion.
“If they don’t win promotion this season though, I think that he could be heading back to Stamford Bridge.
“Promotion back into the Premier League with Derby is a must, otherwise changes are likely.”
“I think this reported link is merely speculation at this stage and Derby fans should not be too concerned yet.
“Lampard’s sole focus will be on the play-off final at present, so fans should feel assured that this potential appointment will have no impact on Derby’s preparations.
“However, it would be a massive blow for Derby if Lampard was eventually to depart Pride Park. He looks capable of building something special at the club, but his Chelsea links will mean he will find it difficult to turn down any potential job offer.”
“I don’t think so.
“Lampard has done a fantastic job at Derby, guiding them to the Championship play-off final. His first season in management can be considered a major success – whether the club win promotion or not.
“With that said, I’m not sure he’s anywhere near good enough or experienced enough to make the step up to Chelsea at this stage of his career, so I don’t think Derby fans have anything to worry about just yet.”
“No, I can’t see him getting it.
“All he’s done with derby is stood still. They did the same under Rowett as they have Lampard.
“I don’t get why there’s these links, I really don’t.
“I suppose it’s just because he’s a former player, but Derby could appoint better.”
