Luton Town are facing an important transfer window this summer where they will be aiming to make the right improvements to their squad to help them kick on.

Nathan Jones’ side are already starting to get linked with potential new additions to their squad. The Athletic have reported that the Hatters have joined the list of clubs who are interested in making a move Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton.

It is believed according to The Athletic’s report Walton will be set to leave Brighton this summer, with the keeper having not been able to establish himself in their side this season. That came after he returned from a promising loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship last term.

Walton has already spent time with the Hatters during the 2016/17 season, and Jones is well aware of his abilities having worked with him before. Luton are thought to be hoping to beat Sheffield Wednesday to his signature this summer.

With Luton entering the race for Walton, we have asked our FLW writers whether they feel he would be the right signing for the Hatters to make…

I’d be a big fan of this.

Walton is obviously known by Luton and Jones having spent time at Kenilworth Road in 2016/17, and he was influential for the Hatters back then.

He’s since impressed at Blackburn and Wigan, but has been unlucky not to have been given a chance in the Brighton team.

He needs a permanent move away, and a move back to Bedfordshire would be a good one for him.

I don’t trust Simon Sluga as I think he is too error-prone, and Walton’s arrival could also bring the best out of him too.

Ben Wignall

I think Walton is a good Championship goalkeeper, but do Luton actually need him?

Simon Sluga had a bit of an up and down first season with the Hatters, but he's proven his worth in the current campaign and I honestly couldn't see Walton displacing him.

Of course, Walton is a few years younger than Sluga but the club spent a considerable fee on the Croatian and he doesn't need to be replaced.

There will be other clubs in the Championship that may need a new number one next season - the likes of Derby and Middlesbrough come to mind - but Luton seem pretty safe in that position and they really don't need Walton unless they're planning on selling Sluga.

Phil Spencer

This could be a really good move for Luton Town.

Christian Walton is a good goalkeeper who has simply found things tough in the Premier League with Brighton.

However, there's no doubt that he'd fit in well in the Championship.

The Hatters have enjoyed a good season this term and will be looking to kick on again this summer, and I think that a move for the 25-year-old would be the next step in helping them to progress even further over the coming years.
