It has been an important week for Bristol City, who began it with their 125th anniversary and will end it with a clash against play-off rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Their 1-1 draw last weekend has moved them to within a point of the top six but they'll undoubtedly be looking to get back to winning ways at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Off the pitch, there has been plenty going on as well. Here we take a look at the three biggest stories this week:

Talk of Benik Afobe's future

The on-loan striker is closing in on a return after his nasty injury at the start of the season but there has been some talk this week about his long-term future.

Speaking to the Bristol Post, Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said he expects Afobe to return to the club at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Robins are understood to have the option to make the deal permanent but Scholes' comments would suggest they have not triggered that yet.

When asked if it Afobe to City was a done deal, he said: "No it isn’t.

"Benik is back in training and the loan to Bristol is still in place. The loan expires at the end of June and as things stand he returns to us."

City in the race for French teenager

The Robins are reportedly interested in 18-year-old French forward Ulrick Eneme-Ella, who currently plays for Ligue 1 club Amiens.

Goal France have reported that City are one of a number of clubs, including Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and French sides Strasbourg and Dijon, that are closely monitoring the teenager.

City do have a history of signing players from France, with Han-Noah Massengo, Famara Diedhiou and Jonathan Kodjia all arriving at Ashton Gate that way.

Injury blow for Sammie Szmodics at Peterborough United

Szmodics has been fantastic for the League One side since he joined on loan from City in January, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 10 appearances so far.

However, it was reported today that the 24-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury that is set to keep him out for the rest of the month.

Both City and Peterborough fans will no doubt be hoping that he is back on the pitch as soon as possible
