‘Iconic’, ‘All credit to you’ – Many Barnsley fans react to Alex Mowatt’s reflective claim

Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt has taken to Twitter to reflect on the red card he received on his debut for the Tykes, which has been well received by fans of the Yorkshire club.
Barnsley announced yesterday that they had triggered a 12-month extension in Mowatt’s deal, meaning he is under contract at the club until June 2021 at least.
The 25-year-old has made 101 appearances since making the switch from Leeds United in January 2017 and become a key member of the Tykes side.

The central midfielder was integral in helping them secure promotion to the Championship last season and was given the captain’s armband this term.
It has not all been plain sailing for Mowatt with the Oakwell outfit, however, as he was shown a straight red card against Wolves on his debut in 2017.
Barnsley posted footage of the midfielder’s over-enthusiastic challenge on Jack Price and resulting red card on their official Twitter account last night, and the 25-year-old was quick to reflect on his start at the club.
🤣🤣 great start 🤦🏻♂️ https://t.co/xl0GJ6eIJU

It appears Mowatt is a very popular figure amongst the Oakwell faithful as many fans have taken to heap praise on the midfielder for his career with the club since and to suggest it shouldn’t have been a red.

I’ve seen others at @BarnsleyFC have horror debuts like yours over the years, and many who went out on loan mid-contract. I can’t think of any who’ve worked their way back and become as big an asset to the team as you. All credit to you for that.
