Ian Poveda has been back at Leeds United’s Thorp Arch training base this week, as one of the Marcelo Bielsa’s senior players stepping up their fitness work ahead of a return to training.

Leeds haven’t been in action since the first weekend of March, with their promotion push placed on hold and doubt surrounding the Championship’s resume.

However, plans have been put in place for the players to return as early as next week, with Leeds’ squad getting ahead of the game and stepping up their fitness work.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

Poveda has been amongst that group of players, taking to his Instagram story to share an image outside Thorp Arch alongside the caption: “Playtime done.”

The winger arrived at Elland Road during the January transfer window from Man City, but so far Poveda is still awaiting a chance to debut for the first-team.

He’s been an unused substitute on occasion, whilst his only real run outs have come for the under-23s, where he has impressed with some direct play.

Bielsa’s current, first choice wingers at Jack Harrison and Helder Costa.

The Verdict

Poveda will be desperate to prove himself at Leeds in the coming years, with the winger seemingly hoping to make an imminent impact.

Like all of Bielsa’s squad, he will have been instructed to work hard during this postponement and judging by his Instagram activity, he’s been one of the first players back in the building at Thorp Arch.

Whether that’s an indication of Poveda playing an increased role remains to be seen, but credit to the player’s attitude.
