Leeds United's Ian Poveda made his Elland Road debut yesterday, in only his second appearance for the club.

Signing from Manchester City back in January, this was a move that excited a lot of Leeds fans. Poveda - who's spent time in the academies of Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City - opted for a move to West Yorkshire, with his chances limited at City.

But Marcelo Bielsa was typically cold with Poveda. The 20-year-old was apparently lacking the fitness that Bielsa demands from his players, and he went several months without barely making the bench.

After making his debut away at Cardiff last week - and impressing in his 14-minute cameo - he was handed his Elland Road debut yesterday, albeit another late substitute appearance in the 3-0 win over Fulham.

Earlier today, Poveda shared this message on Twitter:

At 20-years-old, Poveda is still very much a prospect. Many thought he'd walk right into this Leeds starting line-up and take the Championship by storm, but Bielsa seems to have managed him effectively so far.

The Argentine demands only the best from his players, and anything less won't be allowed anywhere near the starting line-up. But Poveda has clearly worked hard and hasn't let Bielsa's ruthless nature get the better of him.

The verdict

With eight games of the season remaining, Leeds fans are bound to see more of Poveda. With the importance of the games though it's hard to see Poveda starting any, but he sure looks like a player for the future, and he could yet make a name for himself in a Leeds shirt.
