Yannick Bolasie is starting to show promising signs for Aston Villa under the guidance of Dean Smith and he also seems to be seeing the back of his fitness problems.

The 29-year-old has made 13 appearances and has started the last two league games for Villa, showing glimpses of his quality.

Villa are the in-form team in the Championship heading into the festive period and Smith will be keen to see his side continue their good run of form as they edge ever-closer to the play-offs.

Many supporters will have been surprised to see a player of Bolasie's calibre step down to the Championship, but he will be hoping to play a crucial part in their promotion push this season.

Ian Holloway has given his verdict on the winger, who has two goals and three assists in claret and blue so far.

"It was his first start last Wednesday and he is so sharp," Holloway stated in an interview with Quest TV.

"If he gets back to form, like he is, then they are going to be starting a right march."

Aston Villa travel to face fierce local rivals West Brom at the weekend, where they will be looking to build on some impressive performances that they have shown in recent weeks.

The Verdict

If Bolasie can build on these performances he will have a crucial part to play for Villa this season.

Smith has got the best out of a number of underperforming players at Villa Park since he took charge of his boyhood club and Bolasie will be confident that he can kick on now after putting his recent fitness issues behind him.

He faces a considerable amount of competition for a starting spot in the side, but he has the quality to change the course of a game in an instant, which gives him a huge edge.
