Ian Harte has hit back at criticism from Leeds United fans on social media, insisting that he loves the club.

The 41-year-old was criticised by Leeds fans on social media, after he publicly congratulated Jack Clarke on his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Clarke scored two goals in 25 appearances for Leeds last season and was able to establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in the Championship.

The 18-year-old winger has signed a four-year contract with Spurs in deal believed to be worth £10million, but will return to Elland Road on loan next season.

Former Leeds defender Harte is now Clarke's agent and represents the teenager during his contract negotiations.

After the transfer was announced, Harte congratulated the winger on his move to Spurs with a message on social media.

His message to Clarke promoted a negative reaction from Leeds fans, with many criticising Harte for his involvement in helping the player leave Elland Road.

Harte has since responded to the criticism from Leeds fans with another message, describing those who criticised him as clueless and insisting that he loves the club.

The Verdict

I get where Harte is coming from here. Harte started his career at Elland Road and went on to make over 250 appearances for Leeds, so I'm sure this criticism from fans would have been very frustrating for him.

As an agent, it's his job to make sure that his players get these kind of moves and he will probably feel that what he did was the best option for Clarke and his career.

I think that it's a sensible decision for Clarke to return to Leeds on loan, as he will probably get an opportunity to start more games next season and that can only be a good thing for his development.
