BBC Sport reports that Ian Gayle has signed a new one year deal with the Sky Bet League 2 club.
The twenty-one year old defender was a youth product at the Daggers and made his debut last season as a substitute against Wycombe Wanderers in April 2013.
His manager Wayne Burnett has clearly seen potential in the young player and chosen to extend his stay. Gayle has learned his trade with youth loan spells at Kingstonian, St Neots Town, Grays Athletic, Histon and then Whitehawk.
Burnett said prior to the contract signing “We’ve got no issue with Ian Gayle and he’s signing a new contract. He was a massive positive for us at the end of last season and hopefully he can challenge again next season.”
Gayle now faces the challenge of testing Brian Saah and Scott Doe for a regular spot in the starting line-up, and could be joined by the transfer listed Luke Wilkinson if the former Portsmouth youngster doesn’t get a move away from Victoria Road.
Burnett has built from the back this summer, with the signings of goalkeepers Liam O’Brien and Mark Cousins, in additon to defenders Nathan Green and Damian Batt.
Gayle’s addition is another defensive option adding to that of Damian Batt, Nathan Green and goalkeepers Liam O’Brien and Mark Cousins.
