Dennis Politic and Ronan Darcy have both been offered contract extensions on their deals that end this summer, despite recently heading out on loan, Ian Evatt told The Bolton News.

It has been an eye-catching start to life in League One for Evatt's men with a penalty shoot-out cup victory and back to back 3-3 draws to kick-off the campaign.

However Evatt is keen to tie some of the younger members of his squad down beyond this season, with Politic and Darcy still very much in his plans in the longer term  project at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Evatt said: "We are in negotiations about another contract for him (Politic) and Ronan.

"It’s not the end for either of them, it’s about what is best right now for their development.

"We think a lot about them both, we think they have bright futures, so they have both been offered new deals to keep them at the club for the future, that’s what we want to do" he added.

Dennis Politic joined Darrell Clarke's Port Vale on a season-long loan in League Two, while 20-year-old Darcy is set for a move to Norway but on a more short term basis.

The Verdict

It must give the players confidence ahead of their temporary moves, knowing that they are welcome back at Bolton and that the manager has future plans for them both. Rather than being desperate to prove themselves in this move, with the potential that they will be without a club in the summer.

Darcy's spell in Norway will be particularly interesting, Evatt likes to match loan clubs up with his own style of play and moving to a completely different country and environment should be a good learning experience for the young forward.

Evatt understands that if he can improve these assets without affording them first team minutes they will be a strength to the club in the transfer market potentially, but also in squad depth moving forward.
