Ian Evatt reacts as Bolton Wanderers seal new player agreement

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt is delighted with the announcement of the loan extension of Xavier Amaechi.

Evatt has issued the challenge to Amaechi to make the most of his chance now that it has been confirmed he will stay with the club for the rest of the season.

Amaechi is on loan from Hamburg. He arrived in the Summer, but was hampered by injury early on in his Bolton career.

The former Arsenal academy prospect will now need to use the second half of the season to impress his parent club.

But Evatt thinks this is a challenge that Amaechi has the potential to relish.

Eoin Doyle?

“We’re really glad he’s still with us. He’s had a stop-start season and we just need to get him going with a clear run for the rest of the season,” said Evatt, via the club’s website.

“The same could be said of a few of the players, so it will be good for him to get some regular games and show us what can do.

“We’ve seen flashes of it and it’s an opportunity for him now and he has to take it.”

Amaechi finally made his debut last month, coming off the bench in a 2-0 win against Crewe Alexandra. That was the first of eight appearances with the club so far. The winger earned his first goal with the club against Cheltenham.

Bolton are currently 17th in the League One table and are in the middle of a three game losing streak. Their most recent defeat came against league leaders Rotherham, a 1-0 loss.

Bolton’s next fixture comes against Wycombe Wanderers on January 11.

The Verdict

Given the unfortunate start to Amaechi’s time with Bolton, it makes a lot of sense to extend his stay with the club.

There was nothing the club could do about him picking up an injury that kept him out of action for so long.

Now that he is back to full fitness he can give everything to Bolton for the remainder of his time with the club.
