Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has confirmed that Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is set to remain at the club instead of featuring for Iceland in their upcoming clashes with Venezuela and Albania.

Bodvarsson made his return to action as a substitute in yesterday's meeting with Peterborough United after missing his side's clashes with Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic and Milton Keynes Dons due to a hamstring injury.

Wanderers managed to extend their winning run in League One to three games at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday.

Gethin Jones went close to opening the scoring for Bolton in the first-half of this fixture as his header struck the woodwork.

Following the break, Jack Iredale and Dion Charles were both denied by Peterborough goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom as the Trotters continued to push for a goal.

With the game seemingly set to end in a stalemate, Dapo Afolayan netted the winner for Bolton in the 86th minute.

As a result of this triumph, Wanderers closed the gap between them and the automatic promotion places to four points.

After his side's latest victory, Evatt shared an update on Bodvarsson's current situation.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Evatt said: "We need to get him up to speed again.

"He has not been called up I believe so we’ve got another opportunity to get some minutes into his legs on Tuesday, which is important for him and I’m delighted to have him back."

The Verdict

This is a positive update for Bolton as they will now be able to provide Bodvarsson with the opportunity to improve his match fitness in Tuesday's EFL Trophy clash with Tranmere.

Yet to score a league goal this season despite making six appearances in the third-tier, the forward could potentially boost his confidence by producing a positive performance against League Two opposition in midweek.

With Bolton set to make their return to league action on October 1st, it will be interesting to see whether they will be able to kick on at this level under the guidance of Evatt.

Providing that Bodvarsson is able to step up his performance levels, he could potentially play a key role for the Trotters as they aim to challenge for a top-six finish.
