Darren Moore’s pre-season starting XI against Barnsley had a surprise name in it, and West Bromwich Albion fans have expressed their feelings at the decision.

Wantaway defender Craig Dawson has been named in the Baggies starting XI for the fixture against the League One side.

The 28-year-old handed in a transfer request at the start of July after his side’s relegation from the Premier League.

Despite the defender trying to force a move away from the club, he is still under contract and Moore is well within his rights to select the former Rochdale man for his side.

Dawson has been linked with a move to Burnley along with fellow teammate Jay Rodriguez, with the forward starting this friendly.

New West Brom signing Kyle Bartley is also named in Moore’s starting XI as they step up preparations for the new season, which begins on August 4.
