Given Mick McCarthy's notoriously confrontational style, it should probably come as no surprise to see that the former Ipswich boss has taken a shot at some of the club's fans following their relegation to League One.

McCarthy left the East Anglian club last April after five and a half years at Portman Road, with his relationship with some of the club's fan base having grown increasingly fractious.

The 60-year-old has now returned for a second spell in charge of the Republic of Ireland national team, and speaking to Irish publication Balls.ie, McCarthy couldn't resist a dig at some of those Ipswich fans, saying: "Pretty much most of their (Ipswich's) fans were brilliant with me. The ones that hounded me out, I hope they enjoy watching the sexy football in the first division (League One.)"

Taking to Twitter to respond to McCarthy's comments, a number of Ipswich fans appeared far from impressed or convinced by the comments from their former manager.

Here are some of the best of those reactions.
