Queens Park Rangers are yet to make their move for a new manager following Steve McLaren's dismissal earlier this month.

McLaren was sacked following a poor run of one win in 15 Championship matches, but caretaker manager John Eustace has remained in charge throughout April.

Mark Warburton, Nigel Pearson and Tim Sherwood had been touted as possible candidates for the role, but it has now emerged that Tim Sherwood has withdrawn from the running, according to the Evening Standard.

The report also reveals that former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has emerged as a late front-runner for the job.

The Portuguese has been out of work since he was sacked by Swansea City last summer, but he achieved relative success at Hillsborough as he twice guided them into the play-offs.

It is likely that the R's hierarchy will wait until the close-season to make their move, but Carvalhal seems a sensible choice given he has experience.

So, would Carvalhal be a good fit for Rangers?

"I think it's a solid appointment and that is what QPR need right now.

"Carvalhal knows the Championship and has shown in the past that he is capable of improving teams. "In a less pressured environment, I would back him to thrive." Jacob Potter "This would be a smart appointment. "Carvalhal knows the Championship well and he is the somewhat, safe option for QPR if they're looking for a manager with experience. "He should be top of their shortlist ahead of the likes of Warburton and Sherwood in my opinion." Gary Hutchinson “I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. “It seems everyday QPR are linked with someone, often unsuitable. “Why not settle for Michael Appleton or Lee Bowyer? “Foreign coaches are not always the way to success.”
