Derby County suffered their fourth defeat of the Sky Bet Championship season on Friday night as they lost 1-0 to Vladimir Ivic’s Watford at Pride Park.
It’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Dutchman Phillip Cocu, and pressure is naturally building as the Rams languish in the lower echelons of the Championship table at this early stage.
There have been reports of late suggesting Wayne Rooney could replace Cocu should Derby’s poor run of form continue, however as of yet, Cocu remains at the helm.
So, after their defeat to Watford on Friday night, do you fear for Cocu’s job at Derby?
The team here at FLW discuss….
The pressure is building on him, that’s for sure.
It has been a tough start to the season for Derby, and in my view, they left it far too late when it came to making signings and bringing in new players. Against Watford, they lacked any real attacking threat, and if they had brought in Colin Kazim-Richards and Jordon Ibe in earlier, then they may have produced a better display.
I think that this week is crucial for Phillip Cocu. Huddersfield Town are starting to come into form and they picked up a decent win at Swansea on Saturday, so they will present the Rams with a tough test tomorrow night.
Nottingham Forest are also starting to look like a rejuvenated outfit following the managerial appointment of Chris Hughton, and I think a defeat on Friday night against the Reds could mark the end of Cocu’s tenure, given the rivalry between the two clubs and the importance of the game.
They don’t look like winning games, which is a major problem.

I’m not convinced that he needs to be massively under pressure, it’s still early in the season and there’s time for Derby to turn things around.
Such a poor transfer window hasn’t helped Cocu. That Derby squad looks short of goals and there’s so much reliance of Wayne Rooney doing the business, which isn’t really fair.
Then, when you consider the fact that he’s the man being linked with the Derby job if Cocu goes, it doesn’t make sense whatsoever. How can you have your main striker turning his hand to management in October?
Derby’s start to the season has been alarming, but I’d be sticking with Cocu at the moment. He needs that little bit more time.
I worry for him.
The issue here is that quite a lot of fans are beginning to turn against him and once that starts happening you begin to wonder what future there can be for the Dutchman.
I think he’s perhaps got two or three more games to turn it around but with the transfer window leaving them short of strikers it is going to be tough to get that momentum going.
Huddersfield up next is far from ideal as they look to build their own momentum under a new manager and perhaps a loss against them and then against Forest of all teams on Friday will seal his fate.
He needs, I’d say, a minimum of four points from these next two games.
