Sheffield Wednesday carertaker manager Lee Bullen has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, with the Owls in fourth place in the table, having taken nine points from a possible 12.

One player though, who does not have an immediate future at Hillsborough is 21-year-old defender Matt Penney who has joined German side St Pauli on a season-long loan deal, as confirmed on the Owls club website.

Penney will link up with former Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay who manages the Bundesliga 2 side.

So is Penney's move to St Pauli a good move for all concerned?

We discuss........

George Dagless

"I think so.

"Penney looked decent under Jos Luhukay when he was manager at Wednesday but he has fallen out of favour a little bit since then.

"He's a good young player that could still have a bright future at Wednesday and this move could work out nicely for him.

"He's versatile, hard-working and he'll have experience from this move that few others will have so in that sense he'll have an advantage as a young player."

George Brooks

"I think this is a good move for all parties.

"Penney is a good player, but he hasn't been in the matchday squad so far this season and doesn't appear to be in Lee Bullen's plans for the coming campaign.

"He has fallen down the pecking order at Sheffield Wednesday behind Liam Palmer and Morgan Fox, so he probably wasn't going to get a chance at Hillsborough this season.

"Sending him out on loan will allow him to experience regular first-team football again and his former manager Jos Luhukay should be able to get the best out of him and help him adapt to his new club."

Jacob Potter

"I was slightly surprised by this, but it is a move that does make sense in all honesty.

"Penney didn’t feature as much for Sheffield Wednesday last season, making 17 appearances in total.

"The Owls have added depth to their squad, and it seemed likely that Penney was only going to be occupying a spot on the substitutes bench for much of this season.

"I thought they would have loaned him out to another English club, so it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on in Germany.

"If he can impress out there, then he’ll be hoping to return to Hillsborough to fight for his place in the first-team in the near future, which certainly is a possibility."
