Huddersfield Town fans can expect to see a Danny Schofield side full of hard work and commitment in the Championship this season.

They are the words of the man himself, tasked with replacing Carlos Corberan at the John Smith’s Stadium after the Spaniard’s sudden resignation at the midpoint of the summer.

Schofield is in familiar settings having made almost 300 appearances for the Terriers during his playing days, before returning as a coach and serving under Corberan during his two years at the club.

Despite some continuity in moving from Corberan to Schofield, there will be changes to be noticed in the upcoming season.

Still, Doncaster-born Schofield is confident that his side will still relate to the Huddersfield supporters and what they stand for.

“I’ve lived this process before as a player at Huddersfield Town, I understand what the fans demand, I understand what the club demands,” Schofield told his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s meeting with Burnley.

“I’m a Yorkshire person - South Yorkshire not West Yorkshire, but I’m a Yorkshire person. I understand what values and beliefs Yorkshire people have.

“First and foremost it’s hard work, commitment, giving everything to the cause. Anything tactically and technically is built upon that. I don’t think that success can be had without those qualities, I’m sure everybody says that.

“To me that’s ingrained into Yorkshire people.”

The meeting between Huddersfield and Burnley will have the eyes of the footballing world on it.

Schofield’s Huddersfield might not be the main talking point, though, with Vincent Kompany in the opposite dugout, taking charge of his first competitive fixture in English football.

The former Manchester City captain is Sean Dyche’s permanent successor at Turf Moor, tasked with overhauling a squad that lost the experience and solidity of Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Nick Pope. Even on the eve of the season, Dwight McNeil has joined Everton.

There’s been a serious effort at Burnley to bring down the average age of their squad down, particularly in defence where Luke McNally, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and CJ Egan-Riley have all been brought in.

Schofield is expecting to see a difference.

“Having seen their pre-season fixtures there’s a difference in the style of play, both attacking and defending,” Schofield said. “It’ll be a different Burnley team to what it was previously.

“That’s been the biggest area of change in their squad, the centre-backs. It’s something that we are aware of, but we will see how we go.”

What this new-look Burnley side deliver remains to be seen, but on Schofield’s promise, we will see all the qualities that will get the John Smith’s Stadium bouncing for their arrival.
