Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a mixed start to the Championship season, the highlight of which was a 3-0 win over Birmingham City at the weekend, taking Forest's tally of points to four out of a possible nine.

One player who will not be in manager Sabri Lamouchi's plans is 33-year-old midfielder Adlene Guedioura who has completed a move to Qatar club Al Gharafa, for an undisclosed fee, as confirmed on the club website.

The Algerian international was part of the Algeria side which won the Africa Cup of Nations in July and leaves Forest following his second permanent spell at the City Ground, the most recent being when he joined from Middlesbrough on deadline day in February 2018.

So are club right to let Guedioura leave on a permanent deal?

We discuss........

Josh Cole

“Although Guedioura showed occasional signs of promise for Forest during his time at the City Ground, I think that letting him leave could turn out to be a wise decision by Sabri Lamouchi.

“Having fell behind Jack Colback in the Reds’ pecking order last season, the midfielder would have been hoping to force his way back into the club’s starting eleven during the current campaign.

“However, this was not the case as Ben Watson has made the defensive midfield role his own, leaving Guedioura to watch on from the sidelines before making his exit for Qatari club Al-Gharafa.

“Considering that Lamouchi had to cut down what is an extremely oversized squad, sanctioning Guedioura’s exit makes sense as he was clearly not having the desired impact for Forest.”

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think this makes sense.

“With the summer additions of Samba Sow, Jonathan Bostock, and Alfa Semedo, Lamouchi has a wealth of options in central midfield and it is understandable he would look to clear some space.

“Guedioura has been a useful player during his year and a half at Forest but the club have added some talented midfielders this summer and the 33-year-old was likely excess to requirements.

“At 33, Guedioura would likely want to be somewhere that he will be playing regularly, so a move elsewhere to find that suits the player as well.

“Lamouchi added 12 new players to the Reds squad this summer, so I think we could see some more departures before the European transfer window closes at the start of September.”

Jacob Potter

"I think this is the right decision, if I’m being honest.

"Guedioura was unlikely to be a regular in the Forest team under Sabri Lamouchi, so he’ll be hoping his latest move can find himself the game time he needs at this stage of his career.

"He’s been a great servant to the club, but Forest have better options available to them in midfield this season.

"Lamouchi clearly knows that as well, so it’s a smart move by the club to move him on.

"The Nottingham Forest boss needed to clear out the ‘deadwood’ in the first-team squad, and Guedioura unfortunately fell into that category in my opinion."
