The exodus of defenders from Leeds United continues, with 23-year-old Tyler Denton the latest to be allowed to leave Elland Road, having signed for League Two side Stevenage, as confirmed by the Whites.

Denton has failed to make an impact at Elland Road since signing for the club back in 2014, and after underwhelming loan spells at Port Vale and Peterborough United, Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa has given the green light to move him on.

So are Leeds right to let Denton leave on a permanent deal?

We discuss.........

George Dagless

"It probably is the right decision all things considered.

"It didn't work out as well as it could have for him out on loan last season and I think there remain question marks over him at the level Leeds are at and want to be at.

"Indeed, if he can't really stand out at levels below, it is hard to jump to the conclusion that he is then going to force himself into the Leeds side any time soon.

"For sure, it is again unlikely this season coming that he is going to play for the Whites and if they go up the chances of that decrease further still.

"I think if the Whites can get a decent price for him they'll be more than happy to let him go and it could be the best for him too, as he'll be able to find a level where he can play and really get his career going."

Gary Hutchinson

“He’s 23, he’s struggled to make an impact in two loan spells with EFL clubs and frankly he doesn’t look likely to make the grade.

“He’s reached an age where Under 23 football is of no use to him and apparently, he’s of no use to Leeds. He isn’t going to get near the first team, otherwise we’d have seen something of him last season.

“I think the destination tells you everything you need to know; he’s gone into League Two. That hints at his current level to me.

“It’s the best move all round; he gets the chance to play regular football and develop, Leeds have one less fringe player to worry about.”

George Brooks

"I think this is a sensible decision.

"Denton is a decent player, but he's spent the past couple of seasons out on loan and it's highly unlikely that the left-back will get a chance in the first team at Elland Road next season ahead of Ezgjan Alioski or Barry Douglas.

"Leeds have also got a very promising young left-back in Leif Davis and he's probably more likely to get a chance in the first team next season than Denton is.

"At this stage of his career, it is important for Denton to be playing regular first-team football and he simply isn't going to get that at Leeds next season.

"A move away from Elland Road makes perfect sense for both the player and the club.

"It will help the left-back get his career back on track and it will also enable Leeds to free up some space on their wage bill."
