According to The Sun, Premier League sides Watford and Burnley are keen on signing West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson this summer.

The 29-year-old was a regular for the Baggies last season, making 45 appearances as they marched towards the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals.

But, after missing out on promotion to the Premier League, top-flight sides Watford and Burnley are believed to be after the defender's signature this summer, one year after handing in a transfer request at The Hawthorns.

Today, FLW writer George Harbey discusses this potential departure...

Firstly, what did you make of Dawson's last season last term?

"I thought he was very impressive all round.

"There were doubts over whether he'd stay at The Hawthorns after handing in a transfer request, but he stayed and remained a professional, which is testament to his character.

"West Brom's defence was very lacklustre at times last season, but Dawson was the figure who often glued it together and led them in tough times."

Is he deserving of a move to the Premier League?

"You can see why he probably thinks he is deserving of a move.

"He's 29 years of age, he's hardly getting any younger, and he's just had an impressive season in the Championship.

"I think that a move to a bottom-half Premier League side would be a good move for him."

Can you see him leaving this summer?

"I think it's almost inevitable really.

"He only has one year left on his current deal at The Hawthorns, and he isn't really going to be a long-term option for Slaven Bilic's side.

"Albion should look to cut their losses and move on this summer."

Is he replaceable?

"I think he is - yes.

"Don't get me wrong, he's had a very good season for West Brom, but there are almost definitely more younger, better options out there for Bilic's side.

"I'd do everything I could to lure Liam Lindsay away from Barnsley should Dawson leave, if I were Bilic."

What would be the best move for him - Watford, or Burnley?

"I think Burnley is probably the best move for Dawson this summer.

"He fits the mould of being a Sean Dyche player, and they will need a new defender especially if James Tarkowski leaves this summer.

"Watford would be another good move for him, but I think that game-time could be limited for him at Vicarage Road."

Finally, how much should West Brom look to demand for his services?

"It's a tough one - with his contract expiring next year, they can't price teams out, as they can turn around and just wait until he's available for free next year.

"I think anything around £5million is a bonus for Albion - Bilic would be able to work with that budget, and find a younger centre-half who will make a similar impact next term."
