Morteza Pouraliganji is reportedly on the radar of Leeds United, according to the Tasnim News Agency.

The 26-year-old defender is currently without a club after leaving Al Sadd of Qatar, and is said to have seen a move to Trabzonspor collapse after the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

And Marcelo Bielsa, the Leeds head coach, has apparently shown interest in signing the centre-back.

Pouraliganji, whose ability to operate as a central midfielder would make him a useful addition for Leeds, played every single minute of Iran's 2018 World Cup campaign and has 30 caps in total.

So should Bielsa make this move happen?

It wouldn’t be too bad.

He had a good World Cup but having a positive showing in that tournament is a little deceiving.

Some players who have previously done well and got big moves have flopped because of a false showing of their capabilities on the world stage.

But Pouraliganji was a solid defender before the World Cup, and his performances there only accentuated his ability.

It’s a surprise nobody else has come in for him before now.

Gary Hutchinson

No.

It’s that simple, really it is.

I’m always highly dubious of imports, especially those from more obscure countries, because they’ve notoriously struggled to settle in our game.

Leeds United is the one club where, more than most, the pressure is immediate and intense and that makes it even more difficult.

George Dagless

I think it's a risk.

He could end up being a fine player for Leeds but at the same time he doesn't know the league and that will always be a gamble.

Iran were certainly hard-working and tenacious when it came to the World Cup and did overstep the mark at times so it'd be interesting if Pouraliganji brought that to Leeds.

Leeds need options at centre-back, so this looks like a wise move.

The 26-year-old appeared in the World Cup for Iran so has the ability to perform at the highest level - but whether he can translate to the unique league that is the Sky Bet Championship is yet to be seen.

Though, I must admit I'd trust Marcelo Bielsa's judgement on a player.
