Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel will be hoping he can get his side back to winning ways when they host Derby County tonight, after a run in the league that has seen the Tykes drop down to 23rd place in the Championship with only one win to their name all season.

Stendel will be considering his options ahead of the match with a decision on whether to recall striker Mamadou Thiam to the starting XI, one that he may consider.

So should Stendel recall Thiam to face Derby tonight?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"I think it will be tempting for him.

"With Barnsley still looking for their first win since the opening day of the season, it does feel as though Stendel may opt for another change of approach in a bid to force through a result.

"Thiam has shown in the past that he has moments of quality in him, so he could be an option for the Barnsley boss to turn to, given his physical presence could prove a useful asset for Cauley Woodrow to play off.

"Considering Derby are still in something of a rebuilding process following the event of last week, their defence in particular may be somewhat unsettled following the loss of their captain, so bringing in someone such as Thiam to cause as much trouble as possible with his physicality may not be a bad approach for the Tykes to take."

Chris Gallagher

"Yes, he needs to shake things up because things clearly aren't working right now.

"The 24-year-old is undoubtedly frustrating at times and doesn't show enough consistency but he is a threat with his pace and power.

"So, he will give the Rams defence and problem if he does start at Stendel should change things up given how poor results have been recently - with scoring goals a massive problem.

"Then, it's down to the player. He knows a good performance will see him keep the shirt so it's up to Thiam to deliver if he is given an opportunity."

Dean Cooke

"I don't think so, to be fair to Barnsley, despite their poor form the one player who has actually played well is Cauley Woodrow and to replace him would be unfair on the forward.

"Mamadou Thiam can offer a different type of threat, but he hasn't done enough to warrant a place in the starting XI with his performances so far this season.

"It's a big game for Barnsley and they need points before things take a turn for the worse, but Woodrow doesn't deserve to be taken out. Stendel could opt for two up top, but that could cause more problems than it solves."
