Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has issued some positive news for fans, after confirming that defender Anfernee Dijksteel is not for sale, following the Addicks owners' rejection of a bid from Middlesbrough, it is reported on News Shopper.

Dijksteel signed for Charlton in January 2016 and went on to make 58 appearances in all competitions, helping them to promotion back to the Championship via the play-offs last season.

So how big a boost will Dijksteel staying at the Valley be for the Addicks?

We discuss.........

Toby Wilding

"I think this is a big boost for Charlton.

"Having impressed so much last season, you feel Dijksteel could have a big part to play if the Addicks are to survive in the Championship next season, and staying in the division is likely to give them the best chance of securing a new long term deal for the 22-year-old.

"That Charlton are taking such a strong stance is likely to go down well with the club’s fans, given it shows both the confidence and intent they have in keeping one of their key players ahead of their return to the second tier in less than a week’s time.

"After losing the likes of Joe Aribo and Patrick Bauer earlier in the transfer window, this is likely to be a welcome update for everyone around the club, as it shows that Charlton, where they can, will not simply allow their best players to go without a fight, which could be just as important going forward when it comes to fending off interest for other members of Lee Bowyer's side."

Louie Chandler

"I think it is a really positive sign.

"Charlton have so much potential to put together a serious promotion push in the next couple of seasons but that will rely on the powers that be changing tact with regards to selling star men.

"Dijksteel was excellent last season and the fact that Bowyer has come out and confidently stated that he is not for sale is a definite positive.

"Now it is time for others at the club to back him in the market."

Alfie Burns

“It’s exactly what the Charlton fans will want to be seeing at this stage of the summer. Anymore key sales and you’re leaving Lee Bowyer with such a tough task.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind at Charlton since the play-off win; Bowyer was going then staying, key personnel have walked away and the ownership struggle continues.

“For me, with Aribo and Bauer out of the door, Charlton don’t look in the best shape heading into the new season, so retaining Dijksteel is a good move to be making.

“That level of continuity is so important, and whilst Charlton aren’t blessed with it, every little helps.”
