Shaun Williams has stated that he knew Millwall would beat Leeds last Saturday.

The game came just days after manager Neil Harris left the club, but the Lions once again defeated Marcelo Bielsa's lacklustre Leeds side.

Caretaker manager Adam Barrett took control of the side for the fixture and didn't change too much to the side that took on the Whites.

Millwall ran out 2-1 winners, although their cause was helped early on in the game when Gaetano Berardi was sent-off after just 14 minutes of the match.

Williams admitted that he and his team-mates always get up for the game against Leeds and that even he could have managed the side on the weekend.

Speaking to London News Online, Williams said: “He’s been here for a while and knows how the manager and Livers [David Livermore, assistant boss] worked. He didn’t really change too much.

“I think I could’ve managed us against Leeds at the weekend – it kind of speaks for itself. We probably would have won if the gaffer was still here as well. Just because of our record against Leeds at home and what it means to the fans as well.

“I’m not saying it was an easy one for Ads to take, but it was set in stone that we’d perform. We were at them from the off. The [early] goal and the sending off helped."

The Verdict

It was a quite stunning victory for Millwall on Saturday, and a much-needed one after a really tough and probably quite hectic week for the club. With Harris leaving it opens up a lot of different avenues for Millwall as they may opt for a change of style in the near future.

Barrett has impressed since taking over as caretaker manager and has been touted to be under consideration for the full-time job.

Either way, Millwall must carry on showing that fighting spirit like they did last Saturday, and Williams needs to be in this frame of mind right before the ball kicks-off in any of Millwall's future fixtures.
