Football League World's Swansea City fan pundit Jacob Bellayuto says the signing of former QPR defender Jake Bidwell is the perfect start to their summer business.

The club confirmed his arrival on Tuesday, becoming manager Steve Cooper's first signing since taking over from Graham Potter in the summer.

"I think Jake Bidwell is the perfect way to start the transfer window for Swansea," the regular punter told Football League World.

"We desperately need another first team left back to provide competition for Declan John, and he also brings a good amount of experience with him as well.

"At 26, he is older than a lot of the senior team and has played more first team games than them and he is on a free transfer, which is exactly the kind of business we need to be doing this summer given our financial situation."

Last season saw Bidwell make 40 appearances for the Rs as they narrowly avoided relegation but left the club at the end of June after failing to agree on a new contract.

But despite being a regular at Loftus Road, Bellayuto believes that he will have to prove himself before lining up from the start in South Wales.

"I think he'll be on the team sheet week in, week out, but he won’t be the starter to begin with," he said.

"I believe Declan John will get the opportunities to start the season, but I do think Bidwell will have his chances to claim a spot in the team.

"I can see him starting a couple of league games while regularly coming on as a sub on a weekly basis."

It is a signing that would signal a decent start to proceedings for the club but there will still be a lot of work to be done.

Daniel James is yet to be replaced since making the move to Manchester United whilst rumours continue to swirl around regarding the future of Oli McBurnie.

But for Bellayuto the next biggest area of concern remains at the back.

"The next area we need to be looking for signings is in central defence," he said.

"We have our starting center backs in place, but with Cameron Carter-Vickers loan over, the only other center back we have is Cian Harries.

"So I think our best option would try to get Carter-Vickers on loan again or possibly permanently."
