Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will have his planning for the coming season in full swing, with a desire to retain the services of midfielder Kalvin Phillips surely high in his thinking, amidst interest from Aston Villa, according to a report in the YEP.

Phillips was a revelation last season and despite the Whites ultimately narrowly missing out on promotion, the form of the 23-year-old did not go unnoticed.

But is Phillips irreplaceable at Leeds?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"For Leeds, I think he probably is.

"In terms of how they played last season and how they will likely play during this campaign, there is no more important a player than Phillips.

"To try and bring in an adequate replacement when playing in the Championship in such a short space of time is an enormous ask with any amount of money.

"It would say a lot about Leeds if they were to let him go."

Kealan Hughes

“Phillips is the heartbeat in that team.

“He performs the midfield role so well, keeps it ticking over, wins the ball back repeatedly and that makes him integral to the Bielsa system.

“There is nobody else in the Leeds squad who could fulfil the same role and there are very few players at Championship level capable of doing that too, so it is difficult to see who Leeds could bring in as his replacement.”

Gary Hutchinson

”No, of course not.

“Nobody is irreplaceable. Nobody.

“Phillips had a great season and when he didn’t play, Leeds looked worse for it.

“That said, there are other players who could come in, Bielsa is no fool. He’ll already have a plan in mind.”
