Barnsley have strung together a series of results that have thrust them firmly into the League One automatic promotion race, with the Tykes now second in the table, five points behind leaders Luton Town with a game in hand and three points clear of third placed Portsmouth.

Tykes manager Daniel Stendel has seen his side take 27 points from a possible 33 that has allowed them to take advantage, when rivals Portsmouth and Sunderland have faltered.

So now is it realistic to think Barnsley can secure a top two spot in League One?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“Absolutely, yes.

“They’re such a well-organised team and both Sunderland and Portsmouth are doing their best to throw in the towel.

“Woodrow and Moore score goals, regularly, but they’re strong at the back too.

“It would be a big shock if they went up automatically with Luton.”

Jacob Potter

"They have to be one of the favourites.

"Stendel has some real talent in his Barnsley squad this season and they should certainly be challenging for a top two finish.

"If they aren’t to win promotion at all this season, then serious questions have to be asked.

"A top six finish is the minimum expectation."

Jay Taylor

“I see no reason why they can’t.

“Winning games and playing well, they are on fire at present and seem as if the runaway train at Oakwell won’t be stopped.

“They have a squad too good for League One, even after the sale of Brad Potts, they have more than enough to go up.

“Still a lot of football to be played, but at the moment they look dead set on an automatic return to the Championship.”
