Sheffield Wednesday lead the Championship after the second round of fixtures, following a 2-0 win over newly promoted Barnsley, a result that followed on from an opening day victory over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

With the Owls still to appoint a permanent manager, caretaker boss Lee Bullen has done little wrong if he wants the top-job on a permanent basis, giving the Wednesday owners much to consider after such a solid start to the season.

So should Wednesday appoint Bullen after such a great start to the season?

We discuss........

Sam Rourke

"I really think he deserves it.

"The players at the club all seem to be buying into Bullen being the main man at Hillsborough, and it's clear the Owls fanbase a very strong affiliation with the caretaker boss.

"Bullen knows that team inside out and after such a good start to the season, he's well in with a shout of getting the job permanently, and why shouldn't he? He's done nothing wrong and has seemingly got everyone pulling in the same direction.

"Bruce leaving was a major blow for everyone involved with Sheffield Wednesday, but Bullen has come in, got the basics right and has created a sense of positivity around Hillsborough again."

Ned Holmes

“This is a really difficult one.

“Wednesday have made a great start under Bullen, currently sitting atop the table after winning both of their opening Championship fixtures.

“Looking at the season as a whole, if the Owls want to be pushing for promotion then they may feel that a more experienced boss would give them a better opportunity.

“If they had a very well suited candidate lined up for the job, I could certainly see the positives of hiring them, however, given it’s been almost a month since Bruce left I don’t think they do.

“Bullen seems to have the respect of the dressing room and morale is high, bringing in a new boss now would likely unsettle that and may kill their momentum.

“In his third stint as caretaker manager, I think he has earned a chance at the real job.”

"Bullen has got off to a fantastic start and is clearly getting the best out of his players, so if he can maintain this form for a few more matches then he should definitely have a good chance of getting the job.

"However, it would still be a risk to give him the job right now due to his inexperience, as there are too many unknowns as a result, such as how he responds to a defeat or galvanises the team when they go behind.

"There have been numerous managers linked who have experience and accomplishments in the game, and they may be better suited to picking up and continuing Bullen's great start.

"It is a long, tough season and Wednesday will require a manager with various ideas and a track record of overcoming setbacks. Despite that, if Bullen continues this form over the next few matches then he deserves to be considered for the role long-term."
