Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan has claimed that he would like to sign a new contract with the club, with his current deal approaching its conclusion.

Flanagan, who has made 64 appearances and score four goals in all competitions for the Black Cats since joining from Burton back in the summer of 2018, will be out of contract at the Stadium of Light at the end of this season.

Speaking about his contract situation at the club, Flanagan has now revealed that he has yet to receive a new offer to extend his time at the club into the next campaign.

Despite that, the Northern Ireland international says he would like to extend his time with Sunderland past the summer, insisting it would take something "special" to convince him to walk away from the Black Cats, although he admits any decision about whether or not to offer him a new deal will come from the club itself.

It seems however, as though Sunderland's fans would have a difficult time when making a decision on offering Flanagan a new deal, with a number seemingly split on whether or not the club should do just that when taking to Twitter to discuss the matter.

Here, we take a look at what some of those supporters had to say.
