It’s been an up and down few months at Aston Villa with them in the headlines for both good and bad reasons.
As soon as the play-off final was lost, worries grew about the financial future of the club given their spending in the years prior to try and go up.
Indeed, those fears would prove justified as the summer saw key players and staff leave and the rumours grow around the future of Jack Grealish and James Chester among others.
Try as he might, Dr. Tony Xia could not hold on to sole power and needed help in the shape of new investors – something that he’d eventually get.
For sure, it’s not how he would have liked his reign as leader to end – especially when you look at the positivity around his initial arrival.
Our latest FLW Rewind piece takes a look at the positive response to Xia’s arrival with him promising to get the Villans back into the top flight.
Certainly, his early love for the club – something that does genuinely appear to remain – was evident with this post on Twitter:

A bit cheesy, but fans loved it and they were in high spirits after his arrival following their Premier League relegation just a month before:

It shows, though, that things can really change if trouble occurs and by the end of Xia’s sole ownership many were probably desperate for him to give up.
He’s still at the club, of course, but has far less direct control after another hectic summer at Villa Park.
