‘I love him already’ – Many Barnsley fans react to emerging Valerien Ismael footage

Valerien Ismael enjoyed a dream start as Barnsley manager as the Tykes recorded their first Championship victory of the campaign against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.

The Frenchman replaced Gerhard Struber in the hot-seat at Oakwell and was in the stands to see the Yorkshire outfit draw with Millwall on Saturday.

Assistant manager Adam Murray had previously taken charge of the games against Bristol City, Stoke and then at The Den.

But Ismael was in the dugout against the West Londoners and ensured the new manager bounce was in full force at Oakwell, helping Barnsley end their three-month wait for a Championship victory since winning at Brentford.

The Tykes were given a helping hand by Rangers defender Rob Dickie, who was dismissed for fouling Cauley Woodrow, which led to the opening goal scored by Woodrow himself.

Connor Chaplin doubled Barnsley’s advantage before Yoann Barbet’s comical own-goal ensured their biggest league victory since February.

On Wednesday morning, Barnsley’s official Twitter shared a rare video of Ismael’s inspired team talk prior to the game – which was unsurprisingly well received on social media.
