Derby County are reportedly keen on signing Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham before the deadline for domestic transfers tomorrow.

EFL clubs have until 5pm tomorrow to do deals with other English teams and, according to Football Insider, the Rams have their eye on a Premier League forward.

The report claims that Derby have turned their attention to Wickham as they look to sign a new striker before tomorrow's deadline.

But would he be a good signing? And do they need him?

We asked our FLW writers for their thoughts...

This has potential to be a good signing for Derby.

It’s no secret that they need a new striker despite only just bringing in Colin Kazim-Richards, as Jack Marriott’s future looks uncertain and Martyn Waghorn has been struggling with injury.

Wickham is a striker who is particularly good in the air, and he’s proven that he can play up top on his own which would suit Derby’s system.

Following the departure of Chris Martin, I feel that they need to add more physical presence and aerial threat to their attacking line, and Wickham fits the bill.

He’s lost his prolific touch in front of goal in recent years, but Derby have some exciting wide and creative options who could provide him with some excellent chances.

Do Nottingham Forest and Derby County have these 10 things in common?

I like the sound of this potential deal.

Wickham put in some impressive performances late into last year's campaign with Sheffield Wednesday, and I think he could do well at Championship level this term.

Derby certainly need a striker before the transfer window closes, as they haven't got good enough options in attack at this moment in time.

They've still not replaced Chris Martin after he left the club, and I'm not surprised to see them struggling for goals so far this season.

It's been a season to forget so far for the Rams, and it's vital that they get a striker through the door in the near future.

Wickham would be a solid enough option for them in my eyes, especially if he can be given the service from the likes of Wayne Rooney and Louie Sibley.

It's a deal that makes sense for all parties involved.

This is an interesting one.

It does look as Derby need to bring in an extra option upfront in what remains of the transfer window, with the club struggling to find the net in the early part of the Championship campaign, having never really replaced the departed Chris Martin.

However, you do have to wonder whether Wickham is the best option to fill that role, given he has never exactly been the most prolific of strikers, which could lead to some questions over whether he will be able to fill that role for Cocu's side.

That being said, at this late stage of the window, time is running out to get deals done, and adding Wickham's attacking instinct could be better than not getting any option in to provide that, so it could be worth looking into doing a deal here, providing it is affordable.
