Sheffield Wednesday defender Ben Heneghan is keeping positive after suffering a knee injury in October against Lincoln City.

Heneghan was in a strong run of form in the lead-up to his injury, cementing his place as a key player for the Owls.

It's an injury that could see him miss the rest of the season, although the extent is yet to be confirmed by the club. Heneghan had been waiting on swelling around his knee to subside before undertaking the surgery, with confirmation yet to come.

His teammate Dominic Iorfa has been full of praise for Heneghan, suggesting he's taking on the challenge as positively as can be expected.

He told The Star: “He’s been in and around the place and he’s been around the lads, smiling and stuff.

“A lot of the lads have offered support to him and I have too. I’ve been there, I know what it’s like, so I wish him a speedy recovery." Heneghan suffered the injury in what looked like a fairly innocuous challenge in the draw at Lincoln City last month. The news prompted Darren Moore to admit they would be looking to strengthen in defence come January even with Akin Famewo edging closer to fitness after his long lay-off. The Owls have been linked with a move for Hibs defender Ryan Porteous, although they face competition from several sides including Millwall and Luton. Wednesday have been managing though and are unbeaten in their last six league games and will hope that continues when they face Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The Verdict

It was a huge blow for Heneghan after he made the move to Yorkshire in the summer.

He'd been in top form and was Sheffield Wednesday's most consistent defender with the appearances he made.

It's a difficult injury to overcome and with news yet to be released on the severity, it's hard to pass judgement on whether the 29-year-old could still contribute this season.
