Doom and gloom had swept the Liberty Stadium after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The challenge was set to get back to the top flight at the first attempt, and with parachute payments incoming, the Welsh club were among the pre-season favourites to be battling it out at the top of the division.

To do so, they needed a goal scorer, a marksman who would be capable of putting the ball in the back of the next on a consistent basis.

Many of the club’s fans wouldn’t have thought that would have been Oliver McBurnie who struggled to adapt to the Premier League before moving on loan to then Championship side Barnsley.

The 22-year-old scored nine times in 21 appearances for the Tykes but could not stop them being relegated to League One.

On his return to the Welsh side, McBurnie had proved sufficiently he could handle the second tier and signed a new three-year deal with the club in the summer of 2018.

This is FLW Rewind, and we take a look at the reaction from the supporters from memorable moments from the past, be in transfers, matches, or poignant occasions from yesteryear.

Having watched his goalscoring exploits from afar, plenty of the club’s fans were over the moon with the news of his improved deal.

Here’s how some of them reacted to the news on social media.

The reaction would be corroborated with McBurnie’s exploits so far this season, with the 22-year-old banging in 13 goals for the Swans.

He also has four assists to his name under Graham Potter, with the club 13th in the table, just six points off the play-off places.

It was good news in the summer, and it has since proven to be a popular and effective decision by the club.
