Charlton Athletic's fine start to the season continues and manager Lee Bowyer will be hoping that his side can maintain this form, when they make the trip to Wigan Athletic this weekend.

But with good form comes its own pitfalls and other sides are bound to be paying attention to the Addicks stars who are performing so well, players like striker Lyle Taylor who has already scored five times in Championship appearances so far this season.

So with this in mind, should Charlton fans be concerned about clubs rekindling their interest in Taylor in the January transfer window?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"Yes, I feel it's inevitable that he will go.

"With his contract expiring in the summer, the player holds all the cards in this instance and there's no doubt that many Championship clubs will be interested.

"I don't think the Addicks will be able to compete financially with what rivals in this division can offer Taylor and at 29-years-old, having spent his entire career in the lower leagues, he deserves a bigger payday.

"He could be a bargain for someone at a cut-price in January because Charlton know if they don't sell he will leave on a free next summer. There could be a lot of interest in the striker who has shown in the opening weeks that he can play at this level."

Toby Wilding

"I think they have to be.

"Taylor has really impressed me this season with the way he has hit the ground running in the Championship this year, and that early season form will not have gone unnoticed in the top tiers of English football.

"With eight of the top nine Championship scorers from last season now playing in the Premier League, it does seem as though that is an approach to the window by top-flight sides, which could see several taking an interest in Taylor.

"That will surely be a worry for Charlton given his evident importance to their side, and how they cope without him while he is injured in the next couple of months will be a big indicator as to how seriously he is missed by the Addicks if he does indeed leave in January."

Ned Holmes

“Absolutely.

“Taylor has made a fantastic start to the season and his goals have been integral to Charlton climbing up the table as they have.

“There were questions before the start of the campaign about whether he could make the step up to Championship level and so far he has answered every single one of them.

“I could certainly see a promotion contender coming in for him if they’re looking for more firepower in January, particularly if Charlton start to fall off a bit.

“You just wonder whether in some ways this injury could have a positive for the Addicks in that it will keep Taylor out for a little while and may put some potential suitors off.”
