Preston North End are flying at the moment in the Championship, with Alex Neil's side in second place in the table,  just two points behind leaders West Brom.

Neil is not taking anything for granted though and is looking to strengthen his squad further with Boreham Wood striker Kabongo Tshimanga being considered, as reported exclusively by us here at Football League World.

But with Huddersfield Town also in the running for the 22-year-old, would he be a good addition at Deepdale and is he actually needed?

We discuss...........

Kris Smith

“I’m not sure Preston need to sign Tshimanga to enhance their squad. While it would be a low-cost signing, it seems as if he has yet to fully prove that he is ready to make the jump up three tiers to the Championship.

“Preston are currently the joint top scorers along with West Brom on 28 goals and are getting goals from all of their attackers at the moment.

“Having not played higher than League One (six appearances with no goals), it would seem as if Tshimanga might need more time to prove he is ready for a high-profile move, rather than half a season.

“While the striker is young and could prove to be a great talent yet, I think Preston should avoid this deal and turn their attention to signings better suited to continuing their promotion push.”

Louie Chandler

"I don't think this'd be a bad move at all.

"Unlike Huddersfield who have also been linked with the marksman, Preston perhaps lack such depth in the goalscoring department.

"Stockley has shown at times that he has what it takes to thrive at this level and we all know David Nugent's experience in the second tier, but neither have been able to stamp their authority so far this time.

"You could argue that they should be looking for a more proven striker to come in, but I think it is a move worth making regardless."

"Tshimanga is a promising young player and he's done very well for Boreham Wood in the National League this season. He could be a decent signing for Preston, but there's no guarantee he'd be able to replicate his scoring form in the Championship.

"Signing him would have to be considered a bit of a gamble due to his lack of experience at that level and he'd need to adapt quickly to the challenges that come with playing in such a competitive league.

"With Preston hoping to challenge for promotion this season, it's difficult to see him starting many games for them in the Championship.

"There's every chance that Tshimanga could be tempted by the chance to join Preston, but if they were to sign him, perhaps they would consider sending him out on loan to a club in one of the lower division to allow him to gain more experience in the EFL."
