Despite flirting with the Championship play-off places earlier in the season, a dip in form saw Sheffield Wednesday plummet down the table, that resulted in manager Jos Luhukay losing his job.

But with Steve Bruce now in the Hillsborough hot-seat, the task ahead of him is clear, with nine points separating the Owls from the final play-off place, ahead of the visit of struggling Reading this weekend.

So if Bruce can get the Owls firing, can they make a late-season surge for a play-off place?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"They need to put a good run of form together.

"The Owls have the quality in their squad to be challenging for a top six finish, but I fear they may have left it too late.

"They’ll have to go unbeaten for the remainder of this year’s campaign to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs."

Louie Chandler

"I don't think so.

"You can never rule it out, but when you look at clubs like Stoke, Forest and Villa who are all likely to make a burst for the top-six it is hard to fancy Wednesday.

"Hopefully Bruce can inspire a bit of form but I struggle to see it."

Jay Taylor

“Nine points is the difference between the top six and Wednesday, and that is by no means an insurmountable figure to claw back.

“If Bruce can get the Owls firing there is every reason to suggest they can make the top six.

“The biggest bone of contention will be the number of clubs they have to leapfrog in order to get there.

“It's a big ask, but there is one team every season, so why can’t it be Wednesday?”
