Middlesbrough are considering a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory according to the Daily Mail.

The former Stoke City and Millwall forward scored 17 goals in 38 league outings last season, and missed out on promotion with the Owls after losing to Sunderland last week, at the play-off semi final stage.

The 33-year-old joined Millwall from Halifax Town in the summer of 2014, and appears to have a lot more to give in his EFL career.

However, it was a surprise to see him linked with a club who will be aiming to win promotion to the Premier League next season.

FLW's Middlesbrough fan pundit Dana Malt explained why this might not be the kind of transfer target Boro should be looking at this summer.

Speaking to Football League World, Malt said"Lee Gregory had a really good season for Sheffield Wednesday and that mustn't be discredited, however looking at his past few seasons, it seems as though he's a League One level striker right now, which is no bad thing, but Boro are a team that are aspiring to get into the play-offs and with the end goal being to reach the Premier League.

"In the last two seasons that Lee Gregory has been in the Championship, he's scored ten goals, which would indicate to me that he's probably not so much a Championship level striker anymore.

"Of course, he's done it previously in the division, he's scored goals, got into double figures, but right now in his career, at 33 years of age, I don't think it would be the right move for Boro."
