‘I don’t think he’d go straight in’ – Lampard set to use Chelsea connections for Derby: The verdict

Derby County manager Frank Lampard looks like facing competition from rivals Aston Villa, as he tries to bring another Chelsea loanee in Ethan Ampadu to Pride Park, in the January transfer window, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Derby were keen on Ampadu in the summer, but Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri blocked the move, but with the player yet to make a start under Sarri this season, Lampard may be encouraged to comeback in for the player a second time.

But would Ampadu get straight into a Derby XI in he signed for them?

We discuss…..

Jay Taylor

I think he would.

With Frank Lampard at the helm, he already has Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount from Chelsea, and adding Ethan Ampadu would make it a trio from the London Club.

He suits the style of play Derby go with and with their mix of young and experienced players, I can see this move working out well.

I can see this being a colossal signing for the Rams if it comes off.

Gary Hutchinson

He should.

Chelsea wouldn’t loan him out to sit on the bench.

Lampard has done well with loan players this campaign and Ampadu would be as good as any he’s brought in.

Sam Rourke

I don’t think he’d go straight in.

I can see Lampard gradually easing Ampadu into the Rams’ XI, and after several weeks, I could envisage seeing him start for them.

He has all the attributes to flourish at Pride Park.
