Brennan Johnson's impressive start to life at Lincoln City has left manager Michael Appleton concerned that the Nottingham Forest loanee might be recalled in January.

The 19-year-old has added two goals and four assists in 10 appearances for the Imps, so it's no wonder that Appleton is a little worried about losing him at the turn of the year.

But should Forest bring back Johnson in January?

We asked our FLW writers for their thoughts...

George Harbey

I don't think Forest should look to recall Johnson, no.

Johnson is clearly thriving out on loan at Lincoln. He's scored two goals, he's performed well in a wider role, and most importantly, he's playing week in, week out, which is what he would have wanted when he left Forest on loan.

This loan spell will continue to do him the world of good, especially if Lincoln are to keep fighting for promotion under Michael Appleton, and I don't see what good it would do by recalling him from his loan spell.

He wouldn't be a regular for the Reds and wouldn't play as much as he has been whilst at Lincoln, so why ruin that?

The same thing happened with Tyler Walker last season and he immediately lost his form in front of goal after playing back-up to Lewis Grabban. Leave him at Lincoln and watch him develop.

Jacob Potter

I really wouldn't be surprised if they recalled him.

Johnson has impressed me out on loan with Lincoln City, and you would imagine that this hasn't gone unnoticed by Nottingham Forest.

The Reds haven't been anywhere near good enough this season, and again, I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking to bring him back to the club early to add to their options in the first-team under the management of Chris Hughton.

Competition for places is what is needed with Nottingham Forest now, as there are too many players that will be thinking that their place in the starting XI is firmly cemented for the remainder of the season.

However, having a young player that is eager to make a name for themselves like Johnson, could be exactly what is needed to see an improvement from Chris Hughton's side.

He needs to stay out on loan and play football, simple.

Forest's squad is incredibly inflated as it is so immediately Johnson does not have a clear pathway into the starting eleven under Hughton.

Johnson is enjoying a productive stint at Lincoln and it would see silly to end it early and hamper his progress.

He's got a very bright future and you have to remember he is only 19. He's got plenty of years ahead of him to don the red shirt of Forest, but just let him enjoy his football in League One until the end of the season.
