Football League World’s West Bromwich Albion fan pundit Sarah Rudge has suggested she doesn’t think signing full-back Danny Simpson would be a necessary move.

Simpson was released by Leicester City in the summer and is reportedly currently training with West Brom as part of a bid to find a new club.

The 32-year-old defender won the Premier League with the Foxes but Rudge has indicated that she does not believe adding him to Slaven Bilic’s squad would be a wise move.

She explained: “Danny Simpson is undoubtedly a very good full-back with a wealth of experience but I don’t see the need to sign him at present.

“We’ve got Nathan Ferguson and Darnell Furlong in the right-back position who are currently vying for a starting spot and both have performed fantastically so far.

“Simpson would possibly require a decent figure in term of wages and with finances limited I don’t see a reason for signing him when we are well stocked in that position.”

Ferguson and Furlong both made their debut for the Baggies at the start of this season and Rudge suggested she has been impressed by how they have performed so far.

She said: “Nathan Ferguson has had his first opportunity in the starting line up in the league and he couldn’t have taken to Championship life any better.

“He put in a man of the match performance on the opening weekend and has flourished since. He is rightly our number one choice at the moment.

“Darnell Furlong was brought in from QPR has had his chance also in the cup and when Bilic has looked to inject fresh energy. His marauding runs up the wing and his pace have impressed, as has his partnership with Matt Phillips.”

Providing her verdict on the performances of the defence overall, Rudge added: “The defence has been okay. Not brilliant but we have been without our best centre-back in Ahmed Hegazi due to injury, which hasn’t helped.

“Sam Johnstone has made some questionable decisions in goal and certainly needs to reduce his errors. Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi have formed a good partnership in Hegazi’s absence but there is certainly room for improvement.

“However, personally I would suggest that our full-backs in Gibbs and Ferguson have been the strongest part of the defence, which is the reason for my hesitancy over signing Simpson.”

Bilic’s side face a tough test on Saturday as they travel to Craven Cottage to face sixth-place Fulham.
