Football League World's Reading fan pundit Nathan Cole has offered his assessment of Tennai Watson's long-term future at the Madejski Stadium, with the 22-year-old having spent time on loan at both AFC Wimbledon and Coventry City in the last two seasons.

Watson has only managed to make three League One appearances for the Sky Blues so far, perhaps suggesting that he could make an early return to his parent club when the January transfer window rolls around.

Whilst the young defender has only made seven first team appearances for the Royals, he was handed a new deal prior to embarking on his loan spell with Wimbledon last term, perhaps suggesting that the club's hierarchy see him as one for the future.

We caught up with Cole earlier this week to discuss the defender's long-term future and here is what the Reading fan pundit had to say on the matter:

"I can't see Watson having a long-term future with Reading, I just don't see it happening to be honest.

"We have too many right backs at present and I feel there is no room for the youngster to fit into Bowen's team right now.

"He hasn't had enough game time whilst on loan with Coventry this season and is in desperate need of regular game time if he is to secure a new contract.

"He is very quick defender and likes to attack when possible, however I believe his defensive abilities leave a lot to be desired.

"I've not see enough of him at Reading to say whether he deserves to stay in the long-term or not, but from what I've seen, I have my doubts about him."

Watson will be keen to become first choice at Coventry or end up making a return to the Madejski, with the club sure to be frustrated with the amount of minutes that the 22-year-old has been afforded in League One this term.

The opportunity to be loaned out to another club which can guarantee the defender more regular playing time would surely be a no brainer for the Royals if they did indeed recall the right back next month.
