Stoke City manager Nathan Jones could be forgiven for cursing the timing of the latest international break, with his side picking up their first win of the season last-time out against high-flying Swansea City.

Though buoyed by this result, Jones will know there is still much to do and is looking to strengthen his squad further with Iceland international and free-agent Birkir Bjarnason an option, according to Icelandic media outlet Fotbolti.

So would the former Aston Villa midfielder be a good addition to the Stoke City squad?

We discuss.........

Toby Wilding

"I think this could be a decent move from Stoke.

"Bjarnason does have experience at this level, so he could still do a job at this level when they may need him to.

"I'm not altogether sure he would be a guaranteed starter for the club ahead of the likes of Sam Clucas and Badou N'Diaye, but he could be a decent alternative for them to call upon should injuries or suspensions start to have an effect.

"Add to that the fact that he is available on a free transfer - reducing the financial risk of this deal - and it does seem as though this could be something worth considering for the Potters."

Louie Chandler

"I don't really think he is needed.

"Stoke already have five options in central midfield, many cut from a similar cloth to Bjarnason in terms of playing style as well.

"Were the Potters to add another midfielder, you would think they would go for someone with a bit more of a defensive mentality, who can offer some real protection to the back-line.

"Bringing in Bjarnason would just be a waste of time in my eyes and something that is best avoided."

Ben Lang

"Stoke do already have a wealth of midfielders at the club, but I still think this could be a good low-risk signing for the club.

"Bjarnason is a player with Championship experience and Stoke would be able to sign him on a short-term basis and for minimal cost.

"He would provide further depth in midfield and would probably be above the likes of Ryan Woods and Jordan Cousins in the pecking order, while he could also be signed as a precaution if Badou Ndiaye leaves the club.

"This is not a signing that is likely to thrill Stoke fans, but they would be getting a talented player who gives his all in every match. This is an important trait in a side that could be battling relegation."
