Huddersfield Town continue to search for a permanent manager, with caretaker boss Mark Hudson still at the helm of the beleaguered club, who only have one point to show for five Championship outings plus a first round exit in the Carabao Cup at the hands of Lincoln City.

Of the names linked with the permanent post, former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka will not be considered, after Terriers chairman Phil Hodgkinson confirmed that the 45-year-old Spaniard had not applied for the vacancy, as reported on Examiner Live.

So is Karanka right to seemingly steer clear of the manager's post at Huddersfield?

We discuss........

Dean Cooke

"It's a dire state of affairs at Huddersfield currently, and I have no doubts many managers would not currently be interested in going there.

"However, their squad is still a very good one for the Championship. If Karanka was to get a few results, he'd have been loved instantly due to how long it has been since the supporters saw a side that could win.

"He may be holding out for better, or perhaps already cares about the early season standings. I think he'd have been a good appointment for the squad that they have, but he clearly doesn't see it as a worthwhile project."

Jacob Potter

"I don’t blame him.

"He’s a great manager to have at this level in my opinion, and a move to Huddersfield will have been a big risk.

"The Terriers are really struggling at the moment, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them fighting to stay up in the Championship this season.

"There seems to be a lack of cutting edge in attack, and with the transfer window still months away, Huddersfield will struggle to find a manager to take them forward this season I think.

"They need to get a new person in charge though, as Mark Hudson looks completely out of his depth at the moment.

"Karanka would have been too good for them in my opinion, so I’m not surprised that he’s turned them down."

Ned Holmes

"It’s unfortunate for the club as given his previous successes in the league, I think he could’ve done a good job.

"I can completely understand why he has turned them down, the club look a bit lost at the moment.

"I’m not sure they’re capable of reaching anywhere near the heights they did during David Wagner’s reign, so I am not sure it is a particularly attractive job to take.

"Huddersfield’s approach while in the Premier League seems, at least in part, to be preparing for when they did get relegated and so far that appears to have set them up terribly, which would hardly inspire confidence in a potential manager."
