Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is in a race to be fit for the crucial derby against Birmingham after suffering with a calf injury.

The BBC revealed that the 24-year-old has pulled out of Scotland's upcoming international games against Albania and Israel in the UEFA Nations League.

Whilst the extent of the setback hasn't been revealed, Villa boss Dean Smith will be desperate to have the former Hibs player ready for the Second City derby.

McGinn has been an influential figure since joining the club in the summer and the former Brentford chief has openly praised the midfielder for his overall ability.

Given that, the fans are also extremely worried about the prospect of facing their city rivals without McGinn as Villa look to make it three wins in a row to close the gap on the top six.

Here's how they reacted to news of the withdrawal through injury on twitter...
