‘I can’t see it’, ‘They might just sneak in there’ – Aston Villa’s comeback sparking talk of a play-off run – Opinion

Aston Villa pulled off a miraculous comeback on Friday night as they came from three down to snatch a draw with Sheffield United.

Completely outplayed for 80 minutes, the Villans sprung into life when Tyrone Mings headed in to make it 3-1, before goals from Tammy Abraham and then finally from Andre Green saw Dean Smith’s men pull off one of the finest comebacks of the season.

The Villans have a squad full of immense talent at this level, but so far they sit outside of the top six and still some way off being able to really call themselves challengers.

However, their rousing last ten minute performance on Friday has sparked some talk among the footballing world of Villa making a late surge for the play-offs.

With that, we asked our writers here at FLW if they think Villa can indeed be the ones to emerge into the top six come the end of the season…

Lee Connor

“I’ve got a feeling they might just sneak in there you know.

“With Tammy Abraham being in such fine form, if Dean Smith can solve the problems at the back then they could be a big worry for other teams.

“They are still some way off, but there’s always a team who comes from the pack and it could well be Villa”.

Gary Hutchinson

“I can’t see it.

“Sure, it was a good comeback but let’s be honest, they were poor for eighty minutes.

“They have a great set of forwards, that’s not in doubt, but as a defensive force, they’re still a huge worry.”

George Harbey

“I just can’t see it.
“Villa have some magnificent players on paper, but in my opinion, they are a team of individuals.
“They haven’t impressed me at all in recent weeks, and there are definitely some better teams in and around them.”
