Everton are interested in signing Brentford forward Ivan Toney, according to Calciomercato.

Toney joined Brentford in the summer in a deal which could rise to £10million, and he has since hit the ground running for the Bees.

The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals in 15 Championship appearances for Brentford this season, and is already said to be catching the eye.

Calciomercato claim that Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on Toney, as the Italian looks to add even more firepower to his Everton side.

Here, we discuss this potential move to Goodison Park for Toney...

It's no surprise to me that Premier League clubs are turning their attention to Toney, who has taken the Championship by storm since arriving.

He's got everything you'd look for in a top-flight striker and I think it's only a matter of time before he makes that step.

The Toffees are clever to look at him ahead of other clubs and you feel he could be the ideal replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is likely be attracting big clubs' attention soon.

Should that space be there for Toney, then a move to Goodison Park would be a fantastic next step but he doesn't want to go in January if it just means sitting on the bench.

If that's the case, then I think the best thing for him would be to see the season out with Brentford.

He won't be short of suitors in the summer.

I can understand their thinking with this one.

Toney has really impressed me since moving to Brentford in the summer, and he's hit the ground running with the Bees unsurprisingly.

To see him being linked with a move so early into his time with Brentford is a surprise though, and it'll be interesting to see whether Everton submit a formal bid for his services.

I think he's more than capable of playing at a higher level than the Championship, and he could be tempted by a move to Goodison Park.

Toney could be the ideal back-up option to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been in excellent form for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

He ticks all the boxes for me, and it could be a smart signing by the Toffees.

Which club did Brentford sign each of these 25 players from?

Toby Wilding

I could see this being a good signing for both parties.

Toney has wasted no time in settling in at Championship level, and the adaptability he has shown in doing that suggests he could be capable of making the step up to the Premier League in the not too distant future.

Indeed, when you look at the success that the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have had leading the line for Everton, you do feel Toney could fit in well at Everton, given the similar goalscoring poachers instinct to those two that he possesses.

You also imagine that, having never really been given the chance to do so at Newcastle, Toney would relish the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League, and as an established top-flight club with high quality, Everton could give him the chance to do that without too much pressure on him to be their main man immediately, meaning this could suit the striker perfectly.
