Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has called time on the career of centre-back Hugo Diaz at Elland Road, with the player confirming via Twitter that he is to leave the club having played only once for the club in the two years he has been there.

Diaz arrived at the club in August 2017 from Deportivo La Coruna, initially appearing for the U23's before making his first-team debut in April 2018, a fixture that was to prove his only appearance except for pre-season fixtures.

So will Leeds regret letting Diaz leave the club?

We discuss........

Tommy Joyce

"While fans seem to have a good relationship with Diaz, through him being quite active on Twitter, it would surprise me if they ended up regretting this.

"Leeds have a fair bit of depth at centre-back, especially with younger players, so there was no real need to keep hold of him.

"He's played one game in the Championship and he needs to leave to get game-time. He's currently behind Halme and Leeds have Shaughnessy - so they're not short for younger, reserve centre backs.

"If Diaz goes onto being a great player, then they might regret it through not picking up on his talent, but they shouldn't regret letting a player leave who just isn't getting near the first team fold - especially at 22."

"I can understand the logic behind this one, as Leeds are looking to clear their books in order to make room for new signings.

"However, I think there are other players at the club who Leeds could have more readily got rid of, as I thought Diaz really had a future with the Whites.

"He excelled with the Under 23s last season and was a major part of their successful season as they clinched the Professional Development Title. All signs were pointing towards him challenging for the first team next term.

"It is also a surprising move as Leeds are currently short on centre-backs and Diaz could have provided solid cover for Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper next season."
